Setting Up Shipping Rates in Shopify
Set up Shipping Classes:
Setting up Shipping Classes can be helpful, as Shopify has some limitations with default shipping calculations. By default, Shopify applies a single shipping rate, which may not automatically increase if a customer orders multiple items. Follow these steps to adjust this
- Go to your Shopify product list, select all products, and choose “Bulk edit.”
- In the bulk edit view (which resembles a spreadsheet), click on “Columns” in the top-right corner. Scroll down and under the “Shipping” section, enable “Weight.”
- A new column labeled “Weight” will appear. Enter “1” as the weight for each product (this weight won’t be visible to customers).
- Click Save once all products have a weight set to “1.”
Setting Up Shipping Rates:
- Go to Settings in Shopify’s admin panel.
- Select Shipping and delivery.
- Click on General shipping rates.
- Scroll down to view your regions (e.g. EU, International, and Sweden).
- For each region, find the row labeled “Normal” (e.g., for Sweden) and click the three dots (•••) to set up your shipping rates.
- Set your base shipping price, such as 79 SEK, or choose your preferred rate.
- Under the price field, click on the blue link Add conditional pricing.
- Choose Based on item weight and enter “1” in both the minimum and maximum weight fields. Click Done.
Adding Additional Shipping Rates:
- To add shipping rates for additional items (e.g., two items), click + Add rate under the chosen region (e.g., Sweden).
- In the rate setup, name this rate as the customer will see it (e.g., “Normal 2 pcs”).
- Set the price to reflect the additional shipping cost. For example, if your base rate is 79 SEK, add 16 SEK for the second item, making it 95 SEK.
- Select Conditional pricing again and choose “Based on weight.”
- Enter “2” in both the minimum and maximum weight fields for two items. Click Done.
Repeat these steps to add rates for “Normal 3 pcs” and so on, increasing the weight and price incrementally as needed.
If you’re selling to multiple markets (EU, International, etc.), you’ll need to repeat these setup steps for each region.
